After Denovan Hawke was reportedly lost during the battle of Wolf 359 and no help from Starfleet in searching for their lost son Vincent and Rebecca Hawke and a life long friend of the family Justin Thompson purchased an Oberth class starship. With the ship pointed in the direction of the Delta Quadrant the three of them were off in search of Denovan Hawke. Katarina Hawke was 8 years old when her parents and Uncle Justin set out for the Delta Quadrant.
The Oberth class starship and its four occupants were never heard from again and forgotten as time passed.
No one ever knew that the remaining Hawke family and Justin Thompson had been either disposed of or assimilated into the collective just as Denovan Hawke.
Nine of Twelve was a medical Drone. Her first mission out of the maturation chamber directly from the Queen of the Borg was to investigate the rumors of Omega particles said to be in the Gamma Quadrant acquired by assimilation of a Gamma Quadrant race. However, the mission went sidewards and there was an accident destroying the sphere she was on along with every borg except for herself. Putting her in a 'regenerative mode' ever since the accident.
